French President Macron strongly opposes the United States imposing a 30% tariff on the European Union.

On July 13, French President Macron stated that France and the President of the European Commission are in agreement and expressed "strong" opposition to the United States' announcement of a comprehensive tariff of 30% on EU export goods starting August 1. Prior to this statement, the European Commission had engaged in intensive negotiations with the United States over the past few weeks, during which it made solid proposals in good faith.

On the basis of European unity, there is a greater need for the European Commission to firmly defend the EU's interests. This especially means that if an agreement cannot be reached before August 1, it will be necessary to accelerate preparations for credible countermeasures, mobilizing all available means, including the Anti-Coercion Instrument.

On this basis, France will fully support the position of the European Commission in the negotiations. The negotiations will be further accelerated with the aim of reaching an agreement acceptable to both parties before August 1, reflecting the mutual respect that the EU and the US should have as trading partners, and safeguarding the common interests and close value chains of both sides.
