The new leadership of the Ethereum Foundation reveals its scaling strategy, aiming to expand 100 times within four years.
Ethereum Foundation's New Leadership Outlines Future Development Strategy
After the Ethereum network upgrade to Pectra was completed, the new co-executive directors of the Ethereum Foundation, Tamas Stanczak and Shay Wong, participated in an interview where they elaborated on their thoughts and plans for the future development of Ethereum.
The two new leaders responded to the community's criticisms regarding the foundation's execution speed, communication methods, and explained the necessity of the foundation selling Ether. They emphasized three strategic focuses: expanding L1, expanding Blobs, and improving user experience.
In terms of technical roadmap, they clarified the development path from Pectra to Fusaka( expected this autumn), and then to the upgrade in Amsterdam next year. They plan to shorten the hard fork cycle to 6 months and have proposed long-term expansion goals, such as expanding 100 times within four years.
Shay Wong stated that the mission of the foundation is to be the manager of the ecosystem, to step up when the ecosystem needs it most, to focus on key areas, and to empower other participants. Tomasz Stanczak emphasized the need to improve the internal structure of the foundation, accelerate processes, and make team leaders realize that they are true leaders.
Both parties agreed that Ethereum should become a neutral layer for the global economy and transactions, promoting core values such as privacy, security, and open source. They hope that Ethereum is not just a product, but a culture, representing the most decentralized, permissionless, and open blockchain in the world.
In response to community feedback, they acknowledged that the foundation indeed has shortcomings in execution speed, communication, and connecting with actual users. Tomasz stated that these issues can be resolved through small communication adjustments and process optimization, with the key being to activate the community and internal decision-makers, empowering them to accelerate action.
The two leaders emphasized a "product-centric" mindset, focusing more on practical applications and user needs. They proposed specific expansion goals: three times this year, a total of ten times next year, and one hundred times within four years. This goal will serve as a cornerstone for the organization's research and development.
Regarding the scope of responsibilities of the foundation, they clarified that the foundation is not the owner of the Ethereum protocol, but rather plays the role of a coordinator and helper. The foundation does not directly build applications or infrastructure, but supports ecosystem development by funding and connecting various parties.
In terms of specific planning, they intend to accelerate the hard fork pace to once every six months. Following Pectra is Fusaka( in September or October this year), and then Amsterdam( before the end of next year). They are also adjusting the ACD meeting process to accommodate a faster delivery pace and to involve application developers earlier.
Through this interview, the new leadership of the Ethereum Foundation demonstrated its determination to promote the rapid development of Ethereum and its thoughtful consideration for the long-term healthy development of the ecosystem.
